In general I go by foebrian online, but my real name is Brian Kroll. I live in Chicago, Illinois and I am currently employed as a Network Engineer.

In my free time I read and research everything from amateur rocketry, FOSS, video games, pop-culture, home brewing, information security, rock climbing, science fiction, board games, history, tea and much, much more. I am interested in almost everything and with that said, I would say I have the hacker mentality to accompany this vast set of interests. I see, watch, research, play, break, fix and repeat. When I am not sitting in front of a screen, pulling cables through a drop ceiling or putting out fires you will find me drinking tea and one day soon, I hope to open a tea shop.

Fiberoverethernet.com has been an ever evolving project of mine and it all started with a joke. One day at work a few co-workers and I were joking about the next sensational product or idea to hit the market. At the tail end of this chatter we joked about how it could be something crazy sounding like “Fiber over Ethernet!” BAM! Hello domain registrar and hello fiberoverethernet.com. Over the years this site has been on about a dozen different hosts, hosting plans, blogging and web platforms including WordPress, MovableType, custom HTML/XML/CSS, and Drupal. Also being hosted on several different flavors of linux and unix, currently FreeBSD.

As of right now I am in the process of making this site whole once again, and in the process I am merging every instance of FOE into this current set-up a; monumental task. In this process I am also merging all of my projects, research and much more into one resource.
